It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sydney (Syd) Ernest Banting. Syd passed away at home on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the age of 81. He was born on June 19, 1936 in Birch River, Manitoba.
As a young man, work in exploration and the mining industry brought Syd to Flin Flon. There he met his wife, Eileen, and they married on July 20, 1963. Together they made Creighton, Saskatchewan their home and raised their seven children – Rick, Noella, Tim, Robin, Dave, Wanda and Mark. Syd was dedicated to supporting his community, serving as mayor of Creighton for two terms from 1974 to 1982.
Syd worked for many years at Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting until his retirement. During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time at the cabin at Big Mari Lake. Many fishing trips to the cabin with Dad (Grandpa) were enjoyed over the years by his children, grandchildren and friends.
