Paul Stephen Ogryzlo
1944 – 2017
Paul Ogryzlo passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the age of 73 in Saskatoon, SK. He was predeceased by his parents Grace and Lawrence Ogryzlo; as well as other extended family members. Paul is survived by his wife Bernice; 2 children Stephanie (Csaba) Barabas and Tim (Carla) Ogryzlo; 5 precious grandchildren Natalie, Alice, Samuel, Gabrielle, Theodore; brother Peter (Chris) Ogryzlo; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Paul was born on November 26, 1944 in Flin Flon, Manitoba. His childhood was immersed in the woods and water around the family cabin on Lake Athapap. The love he had for being outside shaped his life. It led him through a rewarding career that began with mineral exploration field work at the age of 17 and continued for 50 years, spanning Canada’s north, Australia and Eastern Russia. Along this journey, he studied geology in Calgary where he met Bernice, his soulmate and anchor for the past 46 years. Exploration geology took him away from home for weeks and months at a time, but he always managed to be with family for holidays, spring break ski trips and time at the lake. It was the days at Athapap that were always special for him: as son, husband, Dad and Grandpa. Paul’s curiosity never faded. Learning was his lifelong passion. Field work showed him the world of people and places, geology and geography. His keen ear for languages provided him with a hobby that also enhanced his professional travels. He was constantly occupied by his guitar, science, history, religion and his radio. We will miss him dearly. The family would like to offer a special thank-you to the Palliative Care team at St. Paul’s Hospital, Paul’s other care givers and the many friends that offered their kindness and support. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Saskatoon, SK.
